Linus Torvalds, creator and continued development lead for the linux kernel, has announced the last submission for the new linux kernel 3.1 has been completed and the new kernel will be submitted in about a week.

It seems that a good deal of progress has been made this time around since he announced 3.0. Back then, he announced the changes to the kernel as "NOTHING. Absolutely nothing." and stated very clearly that the 3.0 release was about renumbering.

For more information, you check out this site to read the message from Torvalds himself, or you can also go to the archive of articles on the same site to see all of the updates, bugfixes, etc. for the whole 3.1 development process.
