The Linux developer community has five new heroes to look up to. The Linux Foundation announced the "Top Five 2010 Linux.com Linux Gurus" this week, meaning these five individuals have done more than just about anybody to help their colleagues and promote the operating system.
A formal statement explained, "The Linux.com Gurus are awarded their status based on points accumulated by contributing to a variety of activities on the site. By providing support and information to Linux users looking for answers, writing articles and blogs, moderating forums and groups, and collaborating with peers (among other activities), Linux.com members are thrust into the community spotlight and receive a unique and highly respected recognition . . ."
So on to the list of winners. Masen Marshall was named Ultimate Linux Guru, and as a special reward, received a loaded Linux laptop signed by none other than Linux Torvalds. Which is a pretty nice prize.
Kunal P.Bharati, Andrea Benini, Matthew Fillpot, and Dennis Wiesmann were the other Linux developers who distinguished themselves, and it'd be a bit surprising if they don't receive rewards of their own in the forms of raises and/or job offers.
Congratulations to this group of five. Good luck to everybody else next year.
