Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5.2 Released

Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5.2 is here, and it offers some interesting advantages over older versions. Look for improvements in terms of hardware support, virtualization, desktop, storage, and security, for starters. If you choose to upgrade, anyway.
Scott Crenshaw, the vice president of Enterprise Linux Businesses at Red Hat, stated, "Today's availability of Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5.2, with its many technology enhancements, reemphasizes the value that we offer to customers through our subscription model. . . . These new capabilities should allow managers to extract more value out of their IT budget."
No one's arguing with Crenshaw. The trouble, it seems, is how much effort has to go into the extraction process. The law of diminishing returns, or at least a practical sort of laziness, may have kicked in.
Dana Blankenhorn believes Version 5.2 is worth it to anyone who depends on virtualization. Otherwise, he notes, "Upgrading is always a pain in the patootie."
Blankenhorn is running an informal poll to see how quickly people plan to upgrade their Linux installation. It might be a good idea to take the results into account when making your decision.
