DreamWorks Imagines Linux Development SOA

Hewlett-Packard announced DreamWorks would implement a service-oriented architecture (SOA) solution based on Linux.
The SOA implementation in use at DreamWorks Animation permitted the company to migrate a number of its business services to the open source-based platform. HP noted in a statement how the implementation included the HP Linux Reference Architecture, with integrated software and hardware stacks.
DreamWorks wanted to deploy the JBoss Enterprise Middleware Suite and other open source technology across HP hardware to achieve cost savings while providing a solid development platform. The flexibility of SOA in their enterprise lets DreamWorks add and enhance its applications.
HP described the deployment in a statement about the deal:
Running on a Linux operating environment, the SOA project included planning, designing and re-engineering DreamWorks' existing applications. The company now has a central repository to maintain data, roles and responsibilities as well as workflow information related to the applications.
For example, for a company known for blockbuster films such as "Shrek 2" and "Madagascar," protecting intellectual property is vital. The SOA has allowed for a new copyright tracking application that provides DreamWorks both authorization and authentication of incoming, valuable feature film scripts.
"The new architecture provides us a more unified, efficient IT platform to support our core business applications that keep our company up and running," said Abe Wong, head of Information Technology, DreamWorks.
